Its origin dates back to 1981 when it was first diagnosed in 5 homosexuals in the city of Los Angeles, in the United States. Back then it was referred to as the GRID a short form for Gay-Related Immune Deficiency because it was only believed to affect only homosexuals. Later that theory was thrown away after cases were reported from all over, and after it was discovered that it affects anybody.
